bird poop patio furnitureLiving in Southern California gives us the opportunity to spend a lot of time outdoors.

All year round, the weather is as close to perfect as anywhere in the world.

That perfect weather is also perfect year round living for the birds.

Bird poop is something all owners of patio furniture know about. However, many don’t know how to properly remove bird dropping from their patio furniture without ruining it or leaving stains behind.

Not to get too detailed, but one drop of bird poop on your nice cushions can cause a very unpleasant stain. While we usually think of bird poop as being a grayish white in color, some birds prefer to eat extremely colorful berries, which can cause dark stains.

To help ensure the life of your patio furniture, we have put together this simple three step procedure for dealing with the inevitable bird poop on your outdoor patio furniture.

It’s important to follow these instructions to completely remove the bird droppings and keep your patio furniture looking nice and clean for years to come.

Our Proven Bird Poop Removal Process:

Step 1: Remove as much as possible.

Scrape off excess bird poop from the fabric, being careful not to spread the stain.

A plastic knife or a spoon is a great tool to do this efficiently and without harming the fabric.

Step 2: Spray the stain.

Fill a squirt bottle with warm water and a small amount of a gentle, mild liquid soap.

Spray the mixture onto the fabric where the poop spot is visible.

Step 3: Rub the stain.

Using a clean soft, wash cloth, gently scrub the fabric to remove any leftover bird poop.

If any stain remains once you have completed the scrubbing process, you may need to purchase a cleaner specifically made to remove pet stains.

Any cleaner you choose to use on your patio furniture fabric should first be tested in a hidden spot people will not see to ensure it will not bleach or dye the fabric. Remember, not all pet stain removal products are created equal. You want to make sure you choose one that will not in any way harm your fabric.

Once you're finished cleaning your patio furniture, you must dry it. This can be done by simply placing the cushion in the sun at an angle to allow the wet place to dry thoroughly before you replace the patio furniture cushion.

We only recommend removing covers of our patio furniture if you are planning on replacing the cover with a new cover. Otherwise removing the cushion should be a last resort for removing stains from your cushions.
